Today another flying-related event took place when Rod Blievers – a customer of Air War Publications – took each of us on a flight around Bribie Island north of Brisbane. Although not a Second World War aircraft, there was absolutely no hesitation when asked if we would like a trip in his de Havilland Chipmunk built in 1951. Taking off from Caboolture airport in light wind we were each in the air for about 20-25 minutes. Andrew had the company of a de Havilland Tiger Moth for part of the trip, while Morten (with very little gilder experience) were at the controls, gently taking the Chipmunk around Bribie Island. Thanks to Rod for the ride – it was a true pleasure!
The de Havilland Chipmunk is a tandem, two-seat, single-engined trainer aircraft, which was the standard primary trainer for the RAF, RCAF and several other air forces through much of the post-Second World War years. Read more about the Chipmunk here.
